I literally found this garden art idea in my neighbor’s trash. Thank you, neighbor!

The other day I did a morning walk around the neighborhood and it happened to be bulk trash pick up day in our neighborhood. The city comes by once a month and picks up things that are too big to fit into your trash can. So, this is a great day to look for treasures.
Initially, I walked past this particular pile, but I couldn’t stop thinking about that old wagon wheel I saw. So, obviously I went back for it. When I got there, though, I saw that the middle, wooden part of the wagon wheel was completely rotten. It was in pieces and I could not have even picked it up in one piece. So, I started to think about the outer iron rim. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but I thought it was definitely worth saving.
My New Old Wagon Wheel Rim
Wagon wheels, even just the outer rim, are heavy, by the way. Luckily, I didn’t have far to go. So, I put it over my shoulder and headed home. Certain I could find a spot in the backyard for some garden art, I rolled it in.
My Vine
I have a Carolina Jasmine vine that is growing well, but I’ve been meaning to get some sort of lattice to put it on. I rolled my new treasure over to the vine and decided I’d just wrap that vine around my wagon wheel rim and see how I liked it.

Well, I love it. I’m a huge fan of circles and I like that it’s not some regular old lattice. I love having the vine in a circle.
My New Garden Art
You never know what kind of garden art you can find in your neighbor’s trash. I’m loving mine!

UPDATE TO MY GARDEN ART
Yes, I still have the wagon wheel rim I rescued from the trash years ago, but sadly, my vine is no more. Since this post we have completely redone our backyard including the pool and flower beds. My Jasmine vine didn’t make it, but my wagon wheel rim found a terrific new home. To see how I combined it with my planter and gourds to make a focal point at the end of my deck, check out Large Planter Updated.
